Save of the Year: Holtby Says No
Braden Holtby experienced a wild ride bouncing between Washington and Hershey this year, but in the end it’s safe to say the uber-talented young net-minder will eventually establish a permanent residence in DC.
Called on after Michal Neuvirth played a period with a bit of metal lodged in his eye, Holtby dazzled Caps fans with an incredible stick save on Simon Gagne in a 2-1 overtime win against the Lightning in March. Holtby stopped all 18 shots in relief, starting a firestorm of controversy about who should be starting for the Capitals in net for the postseason.
The victory gave Washington a two point lead in the Southeast over Tampa Bay and without Holtby making a Semyon-esque save, the Caps likely would have dropped a key divisional game.
