Season Superlatives: Erskine Pulls No Punches

Fight of the Year: John Erskine vs. Eric Boulton

Not only was John Erskine sporting an incredible mustache on November 14, he also decided to take Eric Boulton of the Thrashers to task midway through a 6-4 Caps victory. It was a bout of epic proportions with both players “BOMBING” (Joe B’s word, not mine) away at each other, ending with Erskine throwing Boulton into the boards.

Erskine was much improved this year with increased physicality and a willingness to drop the gloves. He isn’t the best player on the ice, but he didn’t let that stop him from posting a career high in goals, points and hits. Erskine took the body all season long, finishing third on the team with 166 hits. He also chipped in with six scraps, including this one against Boulton.

There were several other noteworthy fights including Erskine’s Winter Classic throwdown with Michael Rupp, but this one minute of absolute fury from Washington’s own mustachioed wonder is enough to make it the fight of the year.

  1. I like this fight, but the Winter Classic bout is my favorite. However, watching this brings back some memories!
