Last game: Alexander Ovechkin scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute left in overtime in a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators. The game featured a slow pace with back-and-forth scoring. Eric Fehr also scored for Washington.

Possible lineup for Washington:

Sloan – Alzner

Erskine – Carlson

Possible lineup for New York:

Comeau – Bailey – Parenteau

Moulson – Nielsen – Hunter

Niederreiter – Weight- Grabner

Gillies – Konopka – Sim

Eaton – Martinek

Jurcina – MacDonald

Hillen – Gervais

Outlook: The Capitals escaped with a victory Monday against the Senators. The Caps suffered from the same sloppy play that cost them the season opener against Atlanta, but Ottawa left too many chances on the table. Neuvirth will get his fourth consecutive start, but Semyon Varlamov might be ready to return to action within the next week. The Capitals have three players sitting out with nagging injuries; Tom Poti, Matt Bradley and Marcus Johansson will likely miss Wednesday’s game.

The Islanders defeated their in-state rival, the New York Rangers, 6-4 in a Columbus Day matinee. The Isles are also suffering from the injury bug. Star John Tavares will probably sit out while recovering from a mild concussion, while big contributors Kyle Okposo and Mark Streit are both out indefinitely with shoulder injuries. Not only that, but defenseman James Wisniewski will not play as he begins his two-game suspension for his lewd gesture towards the Rangers’ Sean Avery Monday.
