Capital Eyes On New Jersey – Game 2

Washington Capitals (0-1-0) v. New Jersey Devils (0-0-1)

7:00 EST – Verizon Center – Washington, D.C.

TV/Radio: CSN-DC; Caps Radio 1500

Last Game: The Capitals opened the season with a dud in a 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers. Brooks Laich and Mike Knuble scored for Washington in a game overshadowed by the unexpected fainting of Thrashers goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Evander Kane scored twice for Atlanta, including a penalty shot on a controversial penalty call on Mike Green.

Possible lineup for Washington:

Ovechkin – Backstrom – Knuble

Semin – Fleischmann – Laich

Chimera – Johansson – Fehr

Hendricks – Gordon – Bradley

Schultz – Green

Poti – Carlson

Erskine – Alzner

Neuvirth

Possible lineup for New Jersey (according to In Lou We Trust):

Zach Parise – Travis Zajac – Ilya Kovalchuk
Patrik Elias – Jason Arnott – Jamie Langenbrunner
Brian Rolston – Dainius Zubrus – David Clarkson
Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond – Rod Pelley

Henrik Tallinder – Andy Greene
Colin White – Matt Taormina
Anton Volchenkov – Mark Fraser / Alexander Urbom

Martin Brodeur

Outlook: Both the Caps and the Devils opened the season with lackluster efforts. The Devils squandered a 2-0 lead in losing to Dallas 4-3 in overtime. That means both teams will be hungry for a better display tonight (considering this seems to be a media-predicted preview for the Eastern Conference Finals). Michal Neuvirth will get the start tonight, while Martin Brodeur will also get a chance to erase last night from his brain. There will be a big-fight feel at the Verizon Center tonight.
