Washington Capitals v. Boston Bruins
7:00 PM EST – TD Garden – Boston, Massachusetts
TV/Radio: Boston Bruins TV
Possible lineup for Washington (based on observations from CSN’s Corey Masisak):
Johansson – Backstrom – Fehr
King – Perreault – Semin
Hendricks – B. Gordon – A. Gordon
Chimera – Steckel – Pinizzotto – Laich
Last game: The Capitals brought hockey back to the Verizon Center with a 3-2 victory Tuesday night over the Bruins. Alexander Ovechkin had two primary assists in his preseason debut, while Mathieu Perreault, Alexander Semin and Cody Eakin scored for the Caps.
Outlook: Most of the Caps regulars won’t make the trip to Boston. According to Masisak, Mike Knuble is not traveling to Boston and was skating on a line with Ovechkin and Eakin, possibly meaning that they might not make the trip as well. The Capitals recalled recently cut Braden Holtby this morning. Yesterday, head coach Bruce Boudreau scratched Semyon Varlamov last night as a precaution. Varlamov has a “minor” injury and might not play again until the Capitals’ regular season opener against Atlanta October 8.
Boston, on the other hand, will play most of its regulars tonight. Tim Thomas might see action for the first time since offseason hip surgery. After tonight’s game, the Bruins will head to Europe for exhibition games in Belfast, Northern Ireland, before opening the season in Prague, Czech Republic, with a two-game series against the Phoenix Coyotes.
